Washington State Standard 5.6

Socio-Political Context: A school or program administrator is an educational leader who has the knowledge, skills, and cultural competence to improve learning and achievement to ensure the success of each student by understanding, responding to, and influencing the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.

Functions:

  1. Advocate for children, families,and caregivers
  2. Act to influence local, district, state, and national decisions affecting student learning
  3. Assess, analyze, and anticipate emerging trends and initiatives in order to adapt leadership strategies
  4. Understand the value of place based education related to students' attendance and practice in traditional ceremonies that have been identified as supporting students' spiritual, mental, physical and emotional development 
  5. Understand the significance of the role of cultural identity in providing a strong foundation for all social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual development and demonstrate the ability to build on that understanding in their teaching
