Proof of English Proficiency

Unless the international student is from Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, or English-speaking provinces of Canada, he must submit one of the following English proficiency requirements:

  • TOEFL score (525 for paper-based, 195 for computer-based, 71 for internet-based)
    Official TOEFL scores should be sent directly to the Office of Admissions from ETS (Educational Testing Services). Photocopies or the "examinee copy" are not acceptable. Scores more than two years old, and scores from the Institutional TOEFL cannot be used for Admissions. You can register for the TOEFL or request to have scores sent by contacting the TOEFL website. Central Washington University's school code is #4044.
  • IELTS score of 6.0
    Official IELTS scores should be sent directly to the Office of Admissions form IELTS. Photocopies are not acceptable. Scores more than two years old cannot be used for Admissions. You can register for the IELTS or request to have scores sent by contacting the IELTS website. Central Washington University's school code is #4044.
  • 3.0 or B grades in two college-level English composition courses from a U.S. college/university
  • Recommendation from CWU's UESL program
    Students that do not meet any of the CWU English proficiency requirements may apply for Conditional Admission through the CWU UESL Program. After students complete the highest level of the program and receive a letter of recommendation from the program they will officially be admitted to CWU's undergraduate programs.
