Central has been building lives for over 120 years. Our campus is more than beautiful, it's personable. We're proud of our Central family and close-knit community. Our students thrive in each other's company and develop lifelong friendships. Living on campus provides you with a smooth transition from living at home to making Central your home. Easily accessible, most residence halls are just a short walk to class, the library, or downtown Ellensburg, and you will probably want to bring a bike instead of a car. Central's Living Learning Communities provide you with an opportunity to surround yourself with others who share your same interests. Central also offers campus apartments, which are designed for single or married students, or for those that have families.
At Central, we believe diversity enhances a vibrant campus environment. Our students come from all across the state and the world, and represent a full spectrum of cultures, lifestyles, talents, and interests. To help enrich your experience, Central hosts art exhibits, music and theatre productions, poetry slams, film screenings, academic workshops, faculty presentations, career fairs, and many other events throughout the year.
Inspired by the vision of CWU students and located in the center of campus, Central's Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC) is more that 220,000 square feet. It's the largest building on campus and one of the first facilities of its kind to combine both recreation and student life programs. The SURC is home to a fifty-foot rock wall, an indoor jogging track, a four-court gymnasium, strength training and cardiovascular areas, group exercise rooms, outdoor equipment rentals, and locker rooms with saunas. You'll also find a market-style dining area with flexible meal programs and a large variety of food choices, the Wildcat Shop, a full-service U.S. Bank, ATM machines, a movie theatre, student government, the Wellness Center, numerous student service and programming departments, and the student radio station, 88.1 KCWU, 'The Burg. Many buildings on Central's campus, including the SURC are completely wireless making your connection to the internet easy to matter where you are.
The Associated Students of Central Washington University's Board of Directors (ASCWU BOD) make is possible for students to be heard. Nearly every university governance committee welcomes student members to assure student interests are met.
