Certificate in Accessibility Studies

Become Certified in 10 Weeks--Totally Online!

The 15-credit, four-course certificate can be completed in 10 short weeks in the summer and is offered online. The online format makes this certificate accessible to working professionals and other distance learners.

The certificate can also be completed over a year by taking a course or two each quarter.

Accessibility Studies Certificate - 15 credits

ASP 305 Accessibility and User Experience (4 cr.)
ASP 325 Universal Design (4 cr.)
ASP 435 Accessible Information Design (5 cr.)

Regarding prerequisites:

  • There are no prerequisites for ASP 305 or ASP 325.
  • You must have completed ENG 101 and 102 or equivalent to enroll in ASP 435.
  • The capstone ASP 485 requires the other three courses first. The capstone typically takes more than a quarter to complete but does not require more than one quarter enrollment. The variable credit is determined in consultation with Dr. Petersen.

Regarding electives:

  • The elective credits can be taken at any time.
  • ASP 490 Internship (1-10) is a typical elective choice. Each credit represents  40 hours of field experience. This can be concurrent with other internship or employment placement. See Dr. Petersen to arrange this.
  • Many other courses have accessibility issues and can be approved as electives. Discuss this with Dr. Petersen when you complete your application.
