  • Who will my advisor be?

First, check with the Advisor section of your MyCWU account. If no advisor is listed, visit the Academic Advising page.

  • How do I contact my advisor?

If an advisor is listed in your MyCWU click on "Details" for their contact information. Otherwise, advisors are listed on the advising website by major, undecided and special programs. Continue through the pages until you find the appropriate advisor. Their contact information will be listed under their name.

If you are in a major, please visit Major Advising webpage, First-year students can visit the Exploratory Advising page. Students in special programs such as CAMP, TRIO, DHC, SSS, Athletic and/or international students, can visit the Other Advising page.

  • When can I register for classes?

Each student is assigned a specific date and time when they may register for classes. This information is listed in MyCWU->Student->Enrollment, then "Enrollment Dates".

  • Which classes should I take in my last quarter of community college that will work for my major at CWU?

First, contact your community college advisor to see if they have course information for CWU. We work closely with many community colleges and do our best to provide that information to them. Otherwise, please contact a CWU advisor and they would be happy to review the information with you.

  • How do I declare my major?

Log into MyCWU->Student->Records, then select "Request to Apply/Drop a Program." This will notify the department of the major that you are interested in and they will contact you shortly. You may also contact the department directly and provide your full name, CWU ID number and the exact name of the program that you are interested in.

  • How do I apply for graduation?

When students reach 135 credits, they become eligible to apply for a degree audit (graduation). The application can be found in MyCWU->Student->Graduation, then select "Apply for Graduation". If you believe you are qualified to apply, but the application is not available, email Degree Checkout at Degree@cwu.edu.

  • What is the deadline to apply for graduation?

Students must apply for a degree audit no later than six months before the term they wish to graduate. Please view the academic calendar for appropriate school year.

  • What is the difference between applying for graduation and applying for commencement?

There are two parts to graduation: apply for a degree audit (to get a diploma) and applying to participate in the commencement ceremony. Students can apply for a degree audit/diploma for any quarter, which must be done no later than six months in advance. The ceremony, however, is only held once a year in June. That application is housed on the Wildcat Shop website and opens in March.

  • How do I substitute a class?

Substitutions for General Education requirements are decided by the General Education Committee. Students must complete this form and provide course descriptions, syllabi, or other helpful information to assist them in determining if the course is eligible.

Substitutions for major classes are determined by the major department. Contact your major advisor for assistance with that process.

Substitutions for courses other than General Education or your major (such as pre-requisites) are determined by the department under which the course falls. For example, if a course for your major requires PHYS 111, you must contact the Physics department for approval.

  • I took a class at another school that I would like to have count for a required class at CWU. How do I do that?

Transfer courses for General Education requirements are decided by the General Education Committee. Students must complete this form and provide a course description, syllabi, or other helpful information to assist them in determining if the course is eligible.

Transfer courses for major requirements are determined by the major department. Contact your major advisor for assistance with that process.

Transfer courses for requirements other than General Education or your major (such as pre-requisites) are determined by the department under which the course falls. For example, if a course for your major requires PHYS 111, you must contact the Physics department for approval.

  • I got a text message that I am not sure about. Was that from CWU?

Texts from CWU will only be sent with your permission. The first text will clearly state that it's from CWU. Texts following will not. Most texts will be information or give you instructions to perform a task through MyCWU (for example, to register for classes).

  • I would like to take a class outside of CWU, but how can I ensure that the class will be accepted at CWU as the class/Gen Ed I want it to transfer in as?

Begin by reviewing the Transfer Equivalency Site (TES).

If the school or course of interest are not listed, provide the course description and syllabus to the CWU Office of the Registrar for review.

See "I took a class at another school......" question above for more information.
