VP Issues:

Nasser reviewed the cabinet meeting from last week.

Nasser reported on the February 15, 2001, Legislative Day in Olympia

AVP Issues:

Steve Rittereiser suggests that we train all van drivers. This is a program that we used to have and will look into reinstating.

Dining Services has been asked to provide food to the Brooklane Daycare at a reasonable cost. This will be reviewed by Dining Services to see if it would be feasible.

Security at Randall Hall is a problem. Doors are being propped open. This problem is being addressed with the department chair to find a possible solution.

Jackie Hart has announced that she will be retiring at the end of March, 2001.

Returning resident student signups are going on now – For more information, see the CWU web page ALL ABOARD!

Nine hundred AMERICORPS members are expected to be on campus in March for a conference.

We have settled the contract with AUAP. First payment has been received.

During the next few weeks Rich will be meeting with the students in campus housing areas regarding the new housing/dining rates proposed for next year.

Within the next month, Rich will be scheduling an open forum regarding the proposed parking increase for next year.

Financial Services Issues:

Darcee Hanson has started as the new payroll supervisor.

CTS Issues:

Norman would like feed back on the Telco Business Plan distributed last week to the council members.

Norman reported that it may be possible to change the number “9” to another number for access to long distance dialing. He will report back when he has the additional information.

Dan Burns has announced that he will be staying until March 23.

Facilities Management:

Bill distributed a comparison of the new gas contract rates to the old rates. We have a better contract in place.

Bill submitted a request from the Department of the Army to land a helicopter on campus on May 4 and October 11 to pick up cadets - they will use the parking lot on 18th and “D” Street. This will be coordinated with parking enforcement.

The Department of the Army is also requesting to display equipment (utility helicopter, Abrams Tank, Personnel Carrier, Troop Carrier, Equipment Excavator and Freightliner Equipment Transport) from October 24-28. This will be coordinated with Facilities.

Presentation on How to Handle Difficult People with Tact and Skill - Presented by Bob Martin

Barbara Bisson gave the following account of the presentation: “I found the training to be a positive experience. I walked away reminded that each individual should be treated as he/she would like to be treated….. Bob Martin was an excellent presenter. Bob Martin was able to quickly identify and defuse those who would disrupt the session. Putting individuals into similar groups helped me to visualize and reinforce the subject. I enjoyed the opportunity to enhance my people skills.”

Bill discussed issuing card identification to contractors working on campus. These would show that an individual is authorized to be working on the premises and help with communication to the people in the area about what is going on with the job. There are also concerns expressed about propping doors open while work is being done.  Nasser asked that doors only be propped open when there is visual security (someone monitoring the traffic through the door while it is open for a short time).
