Vice President Business Council Minutes January 9, 2001 VP Issues: Nasser asked if staff from Business and Financial Affairs is attending the university-wide planning session forums that are taking place. He would like Business and Financial Affairs staff to provide input to this process. Attendance is being recorded and has been minimal at many of the sessions. Nasser will have Shirley build a schedule so there is a representative from Business and Financial Affairs at all ASCWU BOD and RHC meetings. All managers in the area will be on this schedule. Nasser will attend the BOD meeting today. Nasser reviewed the COP strategy meeting from January 3. The next Board of Trustees meeting will be held on January 22. The Board would like agenda items in advance to have the opportunity to review prior to approval. AVP Issues: CWU’s industrial insurance premiums are going down approximately 30% due to a decrease in claims filed. This is partly due to an increase in training and excellent effort on behalf of our employees. University premiums have decreased, however there will be a corresponding decline in state funds. Occupancy is holding at 1700 in the Residence Halls. Rich is very pleased. The winter quarter attrition is not as great as in previous years. Financial Services Issues: Joe expressed concern about implementing a new WOS now. He doesn’t feel we have staff to support this during the PeopleSoft implementation. It was decided this would be reviewed after the PeopleSoft implementation is complete. The Tuition and Fee Waiver committee is meeting and will make a decision on what enrollment estimate they will base waivers on for next year. The PeopleSoft financial system implementation contract should be ready today. CTS Issues: UPS maintenance schedule in Computer Center -- Nasser recommended that Bill Vertrees review the testing cycle. President McIntyre’s memo regarding Budget Shortfall and Performance Based Budgeting was discussed. ASSP project team members will travel to Irvine next week for PeopleSoft FMS. CTS staff is included. ASSP and the future of Student Administration System -- There is a meeting scheduled to discuss this topic. Norman expressed concern about salary inequity for exempt employees. He feels a study should be completed. It was suggested he bring this issue to the attention of the Association of Exempt Employees. Rich mentioned that the CUPA survey might contain the necessary information. Camera on Science Building – An Erdman View camera was recently purchased with grant money and was installed by CTS staff. Views of the CWU campus may be seen on NW Cable News. Patrick Shannon is our expert. Norman would like to see improved communication for cross-functional projects.
