The Symposium Group
Central Washington University, 2007/08

The Symposium Group is an interdivisional and interdisciplinary alliance that views the University as a place to collectively engage the most critical and transformative ideas of our times. The Group works together to implement the annual Symposium Without Boundaries series in a co-curricular manner that enhances educational and professional opportunities and strengthens the academic community.

The Group meets monthly and is open to all units interested in contributing to the Symposium. "Contributions" are defined broadly to include all efforts aimed at expending the reach of the Symposium by augmenting the culture of intellectual and public engagement on campus. Contributions may include teaching about content relevant to the Symposium; organizing and participating in panel discussions, leadership programs and service learning initiatives around Symposium ideas; providing books and organizing reading groups; incorporating Symposium ideas into syllabi; organizing living room conversations in Residence Halls; expending existing and creating new interdisciplinary programs; diversifying curricula; generating publicity that reflects the spirit of the Symposium; engaging print and electronic media; applying Symposium ideas to other areas of research and discourse; producing creative and artistic responses to the Symposium; making financial contributions to offset the cost of future Symposiums; and more.

The Symposium Group partners are the African American, African, and Black Diaspora Studies; Alumni Association; American Indian Studies; Campus Activities; Center for Latino and Latin American Studies; Center for Student Empowerment; College of Arts and Humanities; College of the Sciences; David Wain Coon Center for Excellence in Leadership; Diversity Education Center; Department of Art; Department of Communication and Broadcast Journalism; Department of English; Department of Foreign Languages; Department of History; Department of Music; Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies; Department of Sociology; Department of Theatre Arts; Don and Verna Duncan Civic Engagement Center; Ellensburg Public Library; Film and Video Studies; First Amendment Festival; Gallery One Visual Arts Center; McCormick Tribune Foundation; Publicity Center; University Housing and New Student Programs; Wildcat Shop; William O.
