2008 Winter Events and Trips

Outdoor Pursuits- Outdoor Photo Contest
Outdoor Pursuits & Rentals is hosting a photo contest.  The purpose of the contest is to display photographs taken by CWU students during their outdoor pursuits.  Our goal is to find photos that best express the beauty of the natural environment and the exhilaration and serenity of outdoor activities.
Important dates:
April 11, 2008                                         Deadline for entries
April 14-April 30, 2008                          Entries on display at OPR
April 17, 2008                                         Winning entries announced in the evening at OPR’s Spring Symposium
Who can enter? CWU Students
How many entries can each student have? 3
Who will be judging? CWU students, faculty/staff, and the campus community
What happens with the winning entries? The winning photos will be enlarged for display in the OPR. Prizes will also be given to the winning entries.

Free give a’ways, mini clinics, music and possible job opportunities.
Thursday, April 17, 2008- Outdoor Film Fest (Film TBA), 9:00pm Outside OPR (free) *Photo Contest Winners Announced at Film
Friday, April 18, 2008 – Float Trip, 3:00 pm departure, $10
Saturday, April 19, 2008- Intercollegiate Bouldering Competition, 10:00am-4:00pm. 

$12 pre-registration (before April 15), $16 normal registration (after April 15)

Categories:  Beginning (V0 – V3) and Advanced (V4 +)  Male and Female categories

Spring Ski & Snowboard Trip to Mount Baker

Friday-Sunday, April 4-6, 2008- Ski/Snowboard trip to Mount Baker
Departs OPR at 6:00pm on Friday, will return to OPR at 6:00pm on Sunday
Pre trip required meeting on April 3, 2008 6:00pm at the OPR 
$120 Student & Recreation Members
$150 Non-Recreation Center Members
This includes transportation to and from Mount Baker, one all day lift ticket, two nights lodging, two breakfasts and one dinner.
Participants need to bring ski/snowboard equipment and attire, money or lunches for Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday, Sleeping bag, pillow, and sleeping pad.
Participants will be required to attend a pre-trip meeting on Thur. April 3, 6:00 PM @ OPR.
 
Smith Rock, Rock Climbing Trip –

Participants need to bring camping gear, good hiking shoes, lunch for two days, water and appropriate clothing.
 
Friday-Sunday, May 2-4, 2008- Camping Adventure to Stehekin
Departs OPR at 6:00am on Friday, will return to OPR at 6:00pm on Sunday
$60 Student & Recreation Members
$80 Non-Recreation Center Members
This includes transportation (van and ferry ride) camping fees, dinner and a breakfast.
Participants will be required to attend a pre-trip meeting on Wed. April 30, 6:00 PM @ OPR.
 
Saturday-Sunday, May 16-18, 2008- Pete Lake Backpacking Trip
Departs OPR at 9:00am on Saturday, will return to OPR at 4:00pm on Sunday
$30 Student & Recreation Members
$40 Non-Recreation Center Members
Participants need to bring camping gear, good hiking shoes, lunch for two days, water and appropriate clothing.
The hike is challenging, but very rewarding!
 
Outdoor Pursuits- Day Trips
 
The Weekly Sunset Hike, Wednesdays
Departs OPR at 5:00pm, returns to OPR at 7:00pm
$2 for the ride or $10 for a quarter pass (8 weeks).
An opportunity once a week to elevate your Ellensburg existence and hike into the hills; rain or shine, but most likely it will shine. 
Participants need to wear good hiking shoes, and bring snack and water.

Kayaking
Introduction to White Water Kayaking Course – *Pre-Registration is required
May 12,14,16 &17, Two days in the pool, two days on moving water
Monday & Wednesday: 9 – 11 PM, Campus Pool
Saturday & Sunday: 9 AM – 4:30 PM, On the river
COST:  $120.00 Students & Recreation Center Members /
$160.00 Non- Students & Non-Recreation Center Members
This is a four day introductory course to white water kayaking. 
All equipment is included.  There are only 8 spots available.

TBA- Geology Science Seminar
