Mandatory Requirements

Per Quarter, for trumpet students at Central Washington University

Lessons

All absences are excused for serious problems or illness if you call 963-1016 prior to your lesson time. Please attend a lesson sick. Unexcused absences will results in an F for that lesson. Three unexcused lessons will result in an F for the quarter grade.

Applied trumpet lessons are graded as follows: 1/3 weekly; 1/3 scale and technique exam grades, 1/3 jury grade

Quarterly Exam

Everyone is required to take the scale and technique exams each quarter. The exam will be given in the last lesson of each quarter. Scale requirements for each level are to be completed by the end of the third quarter:

Freshman level: Majors and Natural minors

Sophomore level: Majors; Natural and Harmonic minors

Junior level: Majors; Natural, Harmonic and Melodic minors

Senior and Graduate levels: all six forms

Jury Exams

Jury exams include solo, etude and scale evaluation. If jurying up to a new level, please review the requirements in the departments student handbook

Performances

Convocation performances are required at least twice in three quarters at sophomore level and above.

Mandatory half-a-recital to be graded prior to completion of 264 Level for a Bachelor of Music major or 364 Level for a Music Education Major.

Mandatory full recital to be graded prior to completion of 464 Level for Performance major.

Studio

We have a studio trumpet class every other week. Attendance is mandatory for majors. All Music majors are required to erform in studio class twice a quarter with or without piano accompaniment. This can include etudes, solos, and transposition studies. Please set up regular rehearsal times with the staff accompanist during the first two weeks of each quarter.
