Mr. John Harbaugh
Professor of Trumpet
John Harbaugh is Professor of trumpet at Central Washington University. He has over 20 years of college teaching experience. As a jazz educator, bands under his direction have performed at the Montreaux, North Sea and Notre Dame Jazz festivals. His trumpet students have consistently been in the semi-final rounds of the National Trumpet Competition in both the undergraduate and graduate divisions. In 2002 his trumpet ensemble placed third at that event. In 2004 the CWU Trumpet Ensemble was invited to perform at the International Trumpet Guild Convention in Denver, CO. His professional experience includes touring with Tom Jones, Paul Anka, and Buddy Rich. He appears on three Grammy-nominated albums and has recorded as a jazz soloist with the London Symphony. Mr. Harbaugh was featured as a jazz soloist at the 2004 Western International Band Clinic and again in 2005 as both a clinician and soloist. He is principal trumpet in the Yakima Symphony Orchestra and has been a member of regional orchestras in Iowa, Washington, and Alaska. John Harbaugh is currently a board member of the National Trumpet Competition and a clinician for C.G.Conn/Selmer Corporation and has appeared as a soloist/clinician in the U.S., Canada and Taiwan.
