Prerequisites: Audition


Class Objectives:This class is an opportunity to develop the skills, aptitude and sensitivity with the guitar. We will focus on technical, musical and artistic qualities intrinsic to applied guitar. There will be weekly short-term goals to achieve as well as longer-term projects. All students are required to perform in juries at the end of the quarter. Students are required to maintain a daily practice regimen.


Abilities: Students will apply and develop the following abilities:

1. Communication- Use contextually appropriate language, conventions, or symbols and to demonstrate sensitivity to non-verbal information.


2. Aesthetic Literacy- expressing, critiquing, evaluating, producing and recognizing qualities of beauty.


3. Analytical Reasoning- Apply learning in familiar and new contexts. Applying discipline- specific knowledge, processes, terminology, technology or conventions in various assignments, situations or contexts.

Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

2. Have significantly improved arpeggio technique
3. Have significantly improved accompaniment skills
4. Demonstrate an understanding of improved notational/symbol realization
5. Demonstrate improved melodic articulation

7. Added significantly to their repertoire
8. Have elevated their artistic sensitivity
9. Expanded their performance experience
10. Furthered their fingerboard knowledge
11. Added significantly to their improvisational skills
12. Demonstrate rhythmic sensitivity

Grading: Final grades are drawn from the sum of the following:
33% = Class assignments
33% = Daily practice
33% = Term projects
1% = Final jury (P/F)
Students failing to perform in juries will not pass the class

Grading scale:

A=94-100%, A-=90-93%,
B+=87-89%, B=84-86%, B-=80-83%,
C+=77-79%, C= 74-76%, C-=70-73%,
D+=67-69%, D=60-66%,
F=at or below 59%
