All entering students, prospective composers included, who
plan to pursue either a major or a minor in the Department of
Music must demonstrate their performance ability before a faculty
committee. Based on this audition, the Music Department will
determine the student's admissibility into a specific major or
minor area. Students who do not qualify initially for admission
into the Department may be placed on departmental probation. This
will allow them to enroll in some basic musicianship classes and
pursue applied study on either the group or the secondary level.
Probationary students may use the quarter-ending jury as an
audition for reconsideration of their admission to the Music
Department. |

The GRE examination is not required for admission to the
Department of Music Graduate Studies. Candidates for admission
must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a
major in music or its equivalent. Acceptance into a specific
major field will require an evaluation of the candidate's ability
conducted by a committee of three faculty members, two of whom
will be from the candidate's particular major field. Normally,
one of these two will serve as the candidate's graduate advisor.
Please note, however, that admission into the institution
(Central Washington University) does not constitute admission
into a music program. Therefore, candidates should complete the
specific requirements for major fields before arrival on campus
and no later than the end of the first quarter.
The Music Department offers scholarships ranging from $100.00
to $1,500.00 per year. These are available to both entering and
currently enrolled students at Central. Other scholarships are
available through the University Financial Aid Office. In
addition, a limited number of assistantships are available for
graduate students.
Further information about audition dates, schedules,
repertoire requirements, scholarships, and assistantships can be
obtained by contacting the Music Department Office. |
