Admission Audition Requirements In order to complete your acceptance into the CWU Department of Music program, you must audition for the music faculty. This gives us an opportunity to hear the level you have achieved in your musical skills and it gives you the opportunity to discuss your development with collegiate instructors. For your audition we recommend the following:
Requirements:
Performance majors should prepare three works to include 20th century and earlier styles. Admission Audition times must be arranged directly with Professor Brooks, head of the woodwinds area. He can be reached by calling the Dept. of Music at 509-963-1216. Auditions should be scheduled during our annual Open House, in April. For accommodation at another time, please contact Professor Brooks. Jazz Improvisation auditions require two charts in contrasting styles (Blues in F or Bb, a jazz standard from the "realbook", etc). A taped accompaniment or Aebersold play along disc is acceptable and encouraged for a Jazz Improvisation audition. Large Ensemble Audition Requirements Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Symphonic Band auditions will take place during the first week of each new quarter. You will sign up for an audition time on Professor Gookin’s door, room 109. Jazz Band auditions will take place during the first week of each new quarter. Visit the Jazz Auditions page for more information, charts, and scheduled times. Contact Professor Bruya if you have any further questions. Last updated July 31, 2008 |
