Topic: The Ready Position
Student Objective: To get from the neutral position into the ready position while in control
Teacher Objective: To student pinpoint at least three students during the lesson
Lesson Description: This lesson does not take up much time so after the students have performed the tasks and challenges and are ready to move on you can let them try any of the skills that they had learned so far. This lesson starts by being in the neutral position and letting go of the mast with your back hand then stepping back so that both of your feet are behind the mast but still on the centerline. Your front foot should be pointing toward the nose of the board. With one hand on the mast make sure that the sail is held perpendicular to the rail of the board.
Tasks:
1. Move from the neutral position to the ready
position while on the beach
2. Move from the neutral position to the ready
position while in waist deep water with the center board down
3. Move from the neutral position to the ready
position while in waist deep water with the center board up
4. Move from the neutral position to the ready
position while in deeper water with the center board down
5. Move from the neutral position to the ready
position while in deeper water with the center board up
Cues:
Drop back hand and step back
Front foot pointed towards the nose
Challenges:
Perform task one two times successfully with good balance
Perform task two three times successfully with proper
form
Perform task three two times successfully then relax
and balance for 1 minute while holding onto the mast with one hand
Perform task four two times successfully then relax and
balance for 1 minute while holding onto the mast with one hand
Perform task five two times successfully then relax and
balance for 1 minute while holding onto the mast with one hand
