Teaching Philosophy
My philosophy is a combination of being a facilitator and using constructivism. I will model myself after the teachers that I have had in the past who has an authority role in my life and modify their style ot include guiding the student, while allowing them to think for themselves and develop their own intellectual identity. When teaching I will create a relaxed learning atmosphere which involves the students helping each other to learn concepts. Making the activities in the class fun and interesting so the students will want to learn is another mechanism that I will use. As a teacher I will be willing to explore new techniques and or styles of teaching to grow with the changing education system, where more emphasis is being placed on student involvement. I intend to encourage the students to succeed in and out of the classroom by teaching them how to stay healthy, have fun, communicate, and cooperate.
Letter for the Major
The purpose of this letter is to request
admission to the Physical Education major program. I have grown up
learning and loving all types of physical activity. I would like
to share my enthusiasm for these activities with others as a physical
education teacher and high school coach.
I feel that I have been a teacher
for most of my life. I have taught friends, family and peers and
anyone else that needed a little help. Teaching people anything from
how to catch a ball better or trap a soccer ball has helped create a love
for teaching. I have taught people many different activities, but
the activities I enjoy teaching most are athletics. Participating
in sports has been a large part of my life while growing up. I have
played several sports such as soccer, basketball, baseball, water polo,
and the list continues to grow. Becoming a physical education teacher
is my way of passing on the love of sports to others in hope that they
will enjoy them as much as I have.
Growing up is when I learned I loved
teaching and that I wanted to be a teacher. Both of my parents, and
many of our friends and relatives are teachers and as I grew up around
these people I wanted to become a teacher. While growing up I also
learned to love all types of sports. I was taught that sports were
not just a competition, but rather an event of healing, physically, emotionally,
and mentally. High school was the distinguishing point in my life
when I learned how valuable sports are to students. Athletic activity
served as stress reliever and escape, helping to improve my grades.
Throughout my life, friends and family have exposed me to a wide range
of sports and physical activities, team and individual. In addition,
the fitness of the players is also of great interest to me and I have taken
some courses to expand my knowledge of these areas. The classes that
I had the most interest in, and learned the most from, were classes in
First Aid, Anatomy, Nutrition, and my variety of Physical Education classes
ranging from basketball to swimming.
My dream and goals is complete my
college education earning a degree in physical education. I know
that it will take a great deal of work. I feel it to be a worthwhile
goal. After earning my degree here at Central Washington University,
I hope to continue on and teach at an AA school in Washington. In
addition to teaching, I would like to help out the school by coaching or
being an assistant coach for soccer or swimming.
Becoming a physical education teacher
has been a goal of mine since I was in high school. I would love
to be able to encourage others and get them involved in the activities
that serve to heal the body, mind, and soul, and to pass on the great experiences
that I have had while participating in these activities.
Sincerely,
Chad Sage
