Developmental Analysis

This analysis will cover some of the basic Ideas that this course will cover.  The students will go over the skills which will help them to become a more proficient wind surfer.  These skills will hopefully be lifelong, so that they can enjoy this activity for the rest of their life.

The first skills which the students will learn is how to get up onto a sail board and into the kneeling position while keeping balanced.  Next the students will be learning how to move from the kneeling position to uphauling the sail or rig.  Then the students will be moving into the neutral position which is a position to which they should return to if they start becoming off balance.  The ready position and the set position are the next steps which the students will be learning.  These steps require moving your feet and your hands to new positions on the mast and boom.  Last and one of the most fun positions of the course is the sailing position.  In this position students will begin to experience the power of the wind and how it can move the sail board around.  This last portion also includes tacking or turning which is a vital part of windsurfing.

The students will also have one day where they will be able to sail around in the bay and try out the skills which they have learned in the course.  They will be under supervision but they can go around on their own in the bay to feel the freedom that windsurfing can offer.
