Books:

Boy Scouts of America, (1998). Wilderness Survival. Irving, Texas.

This book was really helpful in preparing for the outdoor experience.  I used a great deal of information from this book.    It covers a little bit of everything needed to survive out in the wilderness but at the same time gives enough information to help educate you.

The American Red Cross, (1995). Instructors Manual Lifeguarding. United States of America.

From this book I got some of the first aid methods. I did not use a lot of information from this book but the Red Cross had a lot of good books on these types of emergencies trainings.  If you want to look furthur into learning more about first aid or cpr, you can look another one of thier books called Lifeguarding Today.

Internet Sites:

Kjerrismos, K. How to use a Compass. Available:

http://www.uio.no/~Kjetikj/compass

In this web site I got information on how to read a compass. This is a great web site to look at. She did a great job breaking down and explaining how to read a compass.

Williams, H. What is Orienteering? Available:
http://www.williams.edu:803/Biology/orienteering/o~index.html

I did not get much from this web site.  Although it did have some great ideas and helped me understand what orienteeringi s all about.  If you are interested in finding out more about orienteering I highly recommend this web site.

Davenport, Gregory J.  Wilderness Survival. Available:
http://www.ssurvival.com/

This page gave a lot of good, solid facts about what is needed in the outdoors when you plan on going exploring.  It also had some how to get set up with people who will train you and take you out into the wilderness.  He has also written a book on this subject which you can look up on his web site.
