Lesson 7
Topic: Orienteering
Concepts: How to find directions with or without a map.
Skills: Read maps, a compass and know directions
Objectives: Students will be able to determine difference between
north, south, east, and west. They also will be able to follow a
compass and map.
Lesson activities: (materials needed: compass, map, and list of
destinations.)
Students will have the opportunity how to figure out directions by
looking at the sun or stars to find their direction. They will learn
how to read a compass
(explained by Kjetil Kjernosmos). The
students will also get a list of places to find and see how many paces,
direction and what is near this object to help them understand how to use
a compass, and keep track of all of the directions that they have gone
in so that they will be able to return back to where they came from first.
