Topic: Survival Priorities
Concept: Able to identify different emergencies and how to handle them.
Skill: Read and interpret.
Objective: Help students figure out the different situations between planned and unplanned emergencies.
Lesson activity: (materials needed: one worksheet for each group of pairs with situation, survival pack)
This is a whole group activity. Explain what a planned and unplanned emergency is. A planned activity is when you go on a hike and have all of your equipment ready. The person has planned to be out in the wilderness for a few days with minimal supplies. An unplanned is someone who is stuck out in the wilderness without expecting to be there overnight. Students will fill out worksheet to figure out who planned and who did not. After this the students will go into activity. They will each get a situation with a problem and have to figure out how to fix it. After the students have figured out the situations we will come back together as a class and explain what the students did and maybe suggest other ideas that would have worked.
