Volleyball Overview

Introduction:

I would first introduce volleyball by finding out the students prior experience, give a skill test to see what they need to work on and where to place my students in my beginner, intermediate, and advanced sections.  Since volleyball is a popular sport some students will be more skilled than others so placing them in a correct section is important and helps keep them in flow. At the end of class I would give them a handout about the rules and how I am going to teach the class.

Student Learning Objectives and Outcomes:

When the unit is completed I expect them to have advanced from beginner to intermediate, and intermediate to advanced. The advanced would still be working at advanced but would be focused on perfecting their skills.  I expect them to be competent in, passing, setting, attacking/blocking (on a lowered net) by the end of the unit.

Assessment:

My students will be assessed with skill tests weekly and at the end of the quarter.  I will also allow them to make up a skill test if they are unhappy with a grade at the end at the quarter.  I will also require them to take notes in a journal of the drills we did in class so they have a some information they can use at a later time. The comprehensive test will include rules, general knowledge of volleyball, and cues.
