Introduction and Overview:
Team handball is an
exciting and challenging game, it combines skills from basketball, soccer,
and hockey. it involves skills like running, dribbling, jumping,
passing, catching, throwing, goal tending and strategies. The object
of the game is to move the ball down the field by passing and dribbling
and throwing the ball into the opponents goal.
The game is relatively simple
to learn and play and can be enjoyed by both sexes. It can be played
outdoors, or indoors and is relatively cheap and easy to add to any curriculum.
the game requires continuous running, making it a good sport for cardiovascular
system. It should be a good addition to any curriculum and will add
a new fresh challenge and increase motivation to the students and teacher.
This handball unit is intended for
the middle school years of 6th-8th grade. The introduction should include
a history, general information, rules, equipment, glossary which all can be
accessed at USA team Handball. Click
here for the information. In the early stages of learning use short,
active games that simulate elements of game play. Teach rules as you introduce
each element of the game. Keep students moving and participating.
Use a ball size that fits the hand of most students and use soft ball before
going to official ball. Divide areas that allow more games with fewer
players, rather than using a large area for many players. This allows
for more practice and participation for every child.
