Volleyball Unit Outline

Unit Description:

We will practice the skills involved in volleyball through game situations, skill practice, and questioning.The specific skills we will practice during the unit are: forearm pass, set, spike, serve, dig, and block.The cues for each of these skills will be stressed during the unit.

During the unit we will answer a variety of tactical situations including how to set up to attack, win a point, attack as a team, defend space on your court, and defend against an attack.We will learn ways in which to be successful in each of these situations.

Each lesson will flow in a similar pattern of: games, questioning, skill practice, questioning, and then games.Much of the practice during the unit will be in a triad or groups of three.Later in the unit we may get into groups of six.We will use regulation volleyballs and trainer volleyballs.We will also use badminton courts along with full sized volleyball courts.I want you the students to have multiple opportunities to practice the skills of volleyball, and be able to see where these skills fit in a real game.This is the goal of the unit. 

Class Rules:

§Respect your fellow classmates and demonstrate good sportsmanship!

§Perform the activity as instructed by the teacher!

§Everyone gives his or her best effort everyday!

§If off-task you will be warned then disciplined.

Protocol:

§ìStopî means stop what you are doing, put equipment down, and eyes on the teacher.

§ìGoî means follow the directions instructed by the teacher.

§ìHuddle upî means walk over and stand in a semi-circle around the teacher.

Grading:

Daily grading will be on punctuality, following class rules, safety procedures, and work ethic.Each of you will complete a daily journal of what you learned, your goals and how you will achieve them.Each lesson will contain an assessment of the objectives.At the end of the unit there will be a skills assessment.The practice you get throughout the unit will make you more than prepared.
