The purpose of this unit is to introduce students to Kayaking.  This unit will allow the students the oppurtunity to familiarize themselves with the different equipment and skills involved in Kayaking.  At the end of the two week unit the students will get the chance to test there skills in the open waters of the San Juans through Crystal Seas Kayaking Tours in a 2 day camping trip.

Student Learning Objectives:

            1.  Student can get into and out of kayak safely.
            2.  Student can demonstrate the proper rowing techinique.
            3.  Student can maneuver the kayak forward and back.

Assessment:

The grade for this unit will be determined by:

• Active and cooperative activity (40%)
• Skills test (50%)
• Camping Trip (10%)

• 90 - 100% = A
• 80 -   89% = B
• 70 -   79% = C
• 60 -   69% = D
•   0 -   59% = F
