Lesson Nine ~ Casting 101/Fishing Knots
Salmon Fishing

Casting 101

Casting is a very important part to becoming a successful fisher person.
Once you figure out where the fish are, you have to get your lure to that spot.
Then, practice practice practice! You will find other related casting practice tips on the jigging page.

Casting Tip

When you start fishing a good looking piece of structure  and no fish are biting you should change your retrieve speed. This is done by slowing down the pace at which your reeling in or speeding up. Another change to consider is making pauses.

Reel in four rotations and pause one second. With a slow retrieve lengthen pause and with a fast retrieve shorten pause.

Tip - whenever I start fishing a piece of structure (reef, weedbed, etc.), I always throw my first cast to the deepest end, as this is where the biggest fish will be.
