| Forehand Drive | -Use Eastern Forehand.
Grip paddle with a handshake so that the forefinger is extended up and behind the shaft of the grip with the three fingers and thumb wrapped around the grip, forming a V on top. -Start in ready position -Pivot towards the sideline while rotating the body away from the net, draw the paddle back waist high, shift weight forward and step into contact, tighten grip, contact with flat face in front of the forward foot, and follow through in the direction of the intended flight. Swing the paddle using arm and wrist snap action. Use a short follow-through. |
-Have students shake hands. Next have them shake hands with paddle
making sure to make a V.
-Have a partner move in front of second partner with paddle, practice adjusting feet and body to having non paddle shoulder facing net (or partner) -Then go back to ready position |
| Backhand Drive | -Easern Backhand. Take a forehand grip and rotate the
paddle a quarter turn counterclockwise with the thumb either diagonal across
the back of the handle or extended up and behind the shaft of the grip
for better support.
-Use the same mechanics as for the forehand but on the non-paddle side of the body and with a backhand grip. the body rotates further back due to the paddle and arm crossing the body. |
-Partner move ball and practice turining paddle shoulder towards net
to hit the ball.
-Return to ready position |
| Combine Front and backhand Drive | -When hitting the ball, you need to make sure you hit it on the face
(flat side) of the paddle.
-Extend arms back to hit ball -Turn shoulders toward wall with a side step |
-Paddle and Ball Get-Aquainted Drill.
-Arrange students in a scattered formation and have them bounce the ball upward with the paddle, trying to control the ball without letting it drop to the floor. Repeat until they are able to bounce it 10 consecutive times without moving more than a step or two. ~If they can do this then have then bounce the ball and pick it up with the paddle and then hit it 5 more times and then repeat. -Drop Hit-
|
| Lob | -Use small stroke mechanics as for the forehand and backhand.
-Open the paddle face on contact and follow through high. -Carry the ball up with the paddle. -Open the paddle face to get height and distance. -Use the lob when your opponents rush the net. |
-Lob Drill
Students are in pairs. One partner drop hits two balls from midcourt to backcourt, concentrating on contacting the ball with an open paddle face and lifting the ball to the opposite backcourt. The partner retrieves and drop hits lobs back. After awhile practice alternating hits between regular and lob. |
| Volley
Stud |
-Step to meet the ball in front and to the side of the body.
-Transfer weight to forward foot. -Squeeze the grip just before contact, and contact in the center of the paddle before the bounce -Block the shot downward (very little backswing) and angle to open space. -Follow through slightly. -Meet the ball above net level and direct it downward. -When forced to hit below net level, get down and under the ball and lift it low over the net. |
-Volley drill
Partner students on opposite sides of the net. Partner A stands in midcourt and drop hits to B, who stands two steps behind the nonvolley zone and volleys back, directing the ball downward. Reverse roles after five trials. If the ball is below the net line, the ball is volleyed upward and is a defensive shot. |
| Serve | -Take a forward stride position with knees flexed and weight on back
foot.
-Take the paddle arm back behind the waist with the wrist cocked. -Hold the ball in the other hand in front of the forward foot waist high. -Drop the ball, shift weight, and rotate body forward. -Contact below the waist, and follow through upward. -Concentrate first on dropping the ball and then on swinging the paddle. -Learn to mix serves (high, deep, hard driven and flat) to keep opponents off balance and back n defense. |
-Serve drill
Arrange the students behind the four ends of the court. the first students in the first tow lines (A and B) serve three balls diagonally across the net and then partners (C and D) retrieve the balls and then return the same way. -Serve and return game
|
| Rally | -Hit the ball back and forth trying to keep the ball going. | -Partners hit it twenty times with forehand and backhand
-Partners hit it using a variation of hits (i.e. volley, lob) -Serve and hit the ball 10 times. Reserve |
