As you proceed through the lessons I have outlined, you will find guidelines for daily grading. These daily grades will be entered into the gradebook and at the end of the unit, the grades will be compiled.
The overall grade will be based on:
50% daily participation
25% class worksheets and activities
25% final assessment
Participation grades are marked in the gradebook daily as a plus (+), check (x), or minus (-). Each day is worth 3 points. A plus counts for 3 points, a check for 2 points, and a minus for 1 point. Absences count for 0 points until the assignments and activities are made up. I will note the participation grade in my "paper" gradebook and then transfer the scores to the computer.
The point values for assigned worksheets are noted in the daily lessons. A total of 225 points is possible if we actually do all of the graded activiites that are listed. Opportunites for bonus points will be given at the teacher's discretion.
I will use an Excel program to keep track of grades. This makes
it easy to calculate the final grade. The spreadsheet will be designed
something like the table below. (This shows the first three classes.)
| participation | worksheets |
| NAME | |||||||||
| Total Points Possible | 3 | 3 | 3 | (9) | 15 | 10 | 25 | 25 | (75) |
| Kelly | 3 | 2 | 3 | 8 | 14 | 10 | 22 | 20 | 70 |
| Chris | 2 | 1 | 3 | 6 | 10 | 8 | 15 | 18 | 51 |
Final grades for the unit will be assigned as follows:
90-100% = A
80 - 89% = B
70 - 79% = C
60 - 69% = D
less than 59% = F
(+ and - grades will be assigned to the top and bottom three points
within each range. E.g., 87% = B+)
