TASK CARD #1

IN-LINE SKATING: ROUTINE SAFETY CHECKLIST

 



 
 
 
 
 
CHECK
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY CHECKS
  After each skating session, wipe down in-line skate boots and wheels
  Check wheels for axle tightness and bearing integrity before skating.
  Inspect the skate brake for excessive wear.
  Check the tightness of the bolts that secure the wheels.
  Examine in-line skate laces for excessive wear.
  Check protective gear to ensure that it fits and fastens properly.
  After skating through water or sweating profusely, remove skate liners and allow them to dry thoroughly.

SAFETY CHECKLIST BEFORE IN-LINE SKATING
  Wheels are secure, not worn and turn freely.
  Skates are fastened or laced properly.
  Helmet is securely fastened on head.
  Knee and elbow pad are on securely and correctly.
  Wrist guards are on securely and correctly.

  Feet shoulder width apart
  Knees bent over toes
  Shoulders over knees
  Head up
  Eyes straight ahead

DEEP SQUATS EXERCISE

 










Step 1: Assume the ready position.

Step 2: Sit down slowly so that your shoulders are over the knees. Your buttocks should touch the back of your legs. Do not balance on the inside edge of your wheels. Your body weight should be directly on top of the wheels. Do not turn your knees in.

Step 3: Try to maintain this position for 30 seconds.
 



 
 


TASK CARD #3

IN-LINE SKATING EDGE EXERCISES

 






"S" DRILL

Step 1: Glide on the outside edge of the right skate in a semicircle clockwise (curving to the right). Keep the knee bent.

Step 2: At the completion of this semicircle, without putting the left foot down, flip the right skate to its inside edge.

Step 3: On the inside edge of the right skate, complete another semicircle this time counter clockwise (curving to the left), form an "S" shape.
 
 

Try to keep the depth of the curves the same. Also try and repeat this using the left foot.

 






SEMICIRCLE PLANE GLIDE

Step 1: Execute a plane glide by balancing on the right skate with the left leg extended behind the body.

Step 2: Turn the right skate into the body to glide on the right skate inside edge. Turning to the left, complete a semicircle while maintaining this position.

Step 3: Turn the right skate to the outside (right side) of the body, gliding on the outside edge. Turn in a semicircle, clockwise to the right.
 
 

Try gliding on the left skate inside and outside edges.
