Eyes up and looking ahead Bend the knees and ankles Skates are shoulder width apart Arms at your side Weight is evenly distributed Relax your body Do not turn your knees in Do not balance on the inside edge of your wheels |
| Two-foot glide

Eyes up and looking ahead Knees bent over the toes Shoulders over knees Skates are shoulder width apart Arms extended out to the side |
| On-foot glide
1. Assume on-foot ready position. Shift weight to one foot and bend knee so that it is over the toe of the same foot. Slowly lift the other foot off the ground. Balance on the wheels of the skate. Try this several times with both feet. 2. Try this same position but point your toe outward. Again try this with both feet. 3. Practice with both feet, standing in a one-foot ready position with your toes pointing inward. 4. Now, with a partner, push off into a two-foot glide. While gliding, bend the right knee a little more and shift weight to the right foot. Pick up left foot and continue to glide. Also, try the left foot. 5. Glide on the right foot and lift the left leg off the ground and extend it as high as possible behind the body. Try it with both legs. |
Students are spread out on one end of the gym with lots of space
in front of them.
