Class Assessment Materials

The assessment for my in-line skating unit will be an ongoing activity throughout the class. I plan to use several different methods when assessing my students. A combination of written tests and quizzes, practical skills testing along with attendance and participation will all have an equal role in my assessment. Below is my criteria for the grading policy.


The grading policy will based upon a total point sytem. There will be no curve involved. Everything is equally weighed so that students who are better at written materials can be just as successful as those who succeed at the practical skills materials. Attendance does play a major role in my evaluation. Physical education classes are taught based on demonstration and participation rather than just notes and homework. It is very important for the students to be in class and participating. I will award 1 point daily for just showing up to class. This can raise or lower a grade substantially. I plan to have a weekly quiz that will be worth 10 points. There will be one final test at the end of the class worth 100 points. Additional practical skills testing and other assignments will be a part of my assessment, but the point values are no known at this time. Also, there will be extra credit opportunities given at my discretion.

How I will detemine each student’s grade:

Students total points = % grade Example: 275 = .916 or 92% = A-
Total points possible                                300

                90-100% A
                80-89%   B
                70-79%   C                                             (+ and - grades will be assigned accordingly)
                60-69%   D
                59-0%     F

I will keep track of my grades in a gradebook as well as a spread sheet using the Excel program.
