Roles of Staff
Director- This is the person that chooses to set up a camp, and run it. This person will select the staff, and organize all elements of the camp.
Assistant Director- This person will help the director in all areas.
Nurse- You need one certified nurse for every 100 campers
Special Activities Staff- You will need five to seven people to fill this role, based on an 80-100 campers. There duties will include: overseeing all camp counselors, planning and running special activities (Ex. campfires, dance, skits, etc.).
Counselors- You will need 18-20 people to serve as counselors. A general rule to follow is two counselors for every ten campers. These people are in charge of cabins, and cabin members. They assist in special activities, and other duties. They lead there campers to stay on task.
Teachers- These people teach their lessons daily usually with a partner. They also will assist other camp staff where needed. Depending on how big the group of campers are is how many different lessons you will need to offer. With 80-100 campers you will need to have around 8-10 different lessons being taught. The reason is then there can be 8-10 campers per lesson.
Kitchen Staff- Usually
camps will provide their own cooks that will do all the cooking.
You will need to provide two staff members though that will be in charge
of setup and clean up. This staff will be in charge of assigning
cabins kitchen duty, and overseeing the job. Each cabin will take
a turn in kitchen duty.
**After filling all the roles of the staff you will then need to set up a Pre-Camp training for staff. There everyone will know their exact role that they will be playing at the camp, and they will begin to get to know each other. Here you will assign activities, and begin to plan for the camp. You can do this however you would like, and do whatever kinds of activities you would like to provide. All staff will need to submit ideas, and lessons on assigned due dates for approval, and so that the block plan can be made.
The director will make a block plan of the camp, and activities.
This will include room assignments, and daily agendas. The staff
will need to meet, and go over agendas to clarify any last minute questions.
