Lesson
4
Ball Dynamics
Lesson Objectives: Students
will be able to demonstrate various ball dynamics, using the collective
skidding and rolling motions to knock down the pins most effectively.

Ball dynamics drills
7.
Keys to success for ball dynamics
-
stable at start
-
correct hand position
-
hand position maintained
Ball dynamics drills:
1. Full straight ball delivery
*group management
-
one person at a time per lane
*instructions
-
assume a normal setup position
-
roll the ball using the smooth, flowing,
full straight-ball delivery
-
end with the high-leverage lift, finish,
and follow-through you practiced in the last drill
*student success goal
-
24 full straight-ball deliveries
*decrease difficulty
*increase difficulty
2. Hook ball finish
*group management
-
one person at a time per lane
*instructions to class
-
assume a setup position 4 feet from
the foul line. Move your gripping fingers 45 degrees to the inside
of the 12 o'clock position.
-
begin your cadence, focus on your visual
target, take a one-step delivery and roll a hook ball.
-
the hook is accomplished by imparting
lift in a direction not in line with the ball's path so that the ball will
skid farther down the lane (approx. 15 feet), roll approx. 30 feet, and
then hook within 15 feet of pins.
*success goal
-
18 one-step hook-ball deliveries
*decrease difficulty
*increase difficulty
-
increase the success goal
3. Full hook ball delivery
*group management
-
one person at a time per lane
*instructions to class
-
assume a normal setup position with
your fingers 45 degrees to the inside of the 12 o'clock position as in
the previous drill.
-
roll the ball using a smooth, flowing,
full hook-ball delivery.
-
again, notice that the hook is accomplished
by imparting lift in a direction not in line with the ball's path so that
the ball will skid farther down the lane (approx. 15 feet), roll approx.
30 feet, and then hook within 15 feet of the pins.
*success goal
-
24 full hook-ball deliveries
*decrease difficulty
*increase difficulty
