Lesson Plan Fifteen: Pool ~ One Foot Deep Water Start

Topic:  One Foot Deep Water Start
Concept: Students will be able to apply their skills in a water setting ~ the pool
Skills:
1. Students will review basic life vest safety ~ See   LESSON TWO
2. Students will use a partner and walk through the basics of the two foot start
3. Students will get into the one foot start position with a modified rope and have their partner pull them around while they are both in the water.

One Foot Deep Water Start
The one foot start creates less force and pull than the two foot start, making it easier on the back. It is also easier to balance in the water during the start.

Teaching Cues:
1. Hold the handle out towards the boat with a slight bend in the arms.
2. Pull the ski leg knee up to the chest and point the free foot down behind the body.
3. This leg will help you keep straight and counter your balance.
4. Keep your eyes focused just above the boat.
5. As the boat starts, arch your back away from the boat and slowly stand up by bringing your hips towards the handle.
6. Continue to drag your free foot behind you as you stand up.
7. After you are up, place your free foot into the rear toe strap.
