I. Explain and identify the 13 essentials
A. Students will receive a 13 essentials checklist handout.
II. Review Backpacking Minimum-Impact Travel handout
A. Students will receive a minimum-impact travel handout.
III. Review general safety tips for all trips into the outdoors
A. Students will receive a handout on general safety tips.
IV. Review the steps to take before you leave home
A. Students will receive a handout on the steps to take before leaving home.
V. Explain the steps one should take to plan a trip
A. Students
will receive a handout on steps to take to plan
a trip.
Review:
-Instructor will ask the students
to name all of the 13 essentials. Students will raise
their hands and the instructor
will randomly call on students until all of the 13
essentials have been named.
-Instructor will list the 13
essentials on the board while also holding up examples of
the 13 essentials.
-Instructor will also ask the
students to name other backpacking tips that they
learned from the handouts on
minimum-impact travel, safety, before leaving home
and how to plan your first
trip.
Assessment:
-All students will be given
a
quiz
on the 13 essentials. They must be
able to name all
of them. The quiz
will be worth a total of 26 points.
