These are some samples of my expected benchmarks and learning outcomes Per Grade Level.

Traveling Benchmarks  (Traveling with different locomotor patterns: Sliding, Galloping, Hopping, Skipping, Leaping, Running)

Kindergarten

-Walks, runs, and hops, in forward and sideways directions, and changes direction quickly in response to a signal.

1st Grade

-Travels through a course or pathway using 4 different locomotor movements, and changes from one movement to another quickly in response to a signal.

2nd Grade

-Uses concepts of space awareness and movement control to run, hop, and skip in different ways in a large group without bumping into others or falling.

3rd Grade

-Travels through an obstacle course or pathway using 8 different locomotor movements, and changes from one movement to another quickly in response to a signal.

4th Grade

-Is able to identify the critical elements of 4 different locomotor patterns performed by another student and is able to provide appropriate feedback to that student.

5th Grade

-Uses locomotor skills in response to music.  Is able to use a variety of movements while keeping rhythm, changing speed, and following a musical beat in self space.

This is the Outcome for traveling: an outcome is the final level of expected achievement for students.  This is the end result of a skill that students have been learning over a given period of time.

6th Grade

-Is able to create and perform a routine using a variety of locomotor movement patterns, either while working alone or in a group.

Outcomes for other skills
Chasing, Fleeing, Dodging

-Students are able to chase, flee, and dodge, using appropriate movement patterns, in a variety of games and situations, and can also do so while manipulating different types of apparatus.

Jumping and Landing: Benchmarks

Kindergarten

-Identifies and begins to utilize the technique employed (leg flexion) to soften the landing when jumping.

1st Grade

-Jumps and lands using proper movement patterns.  Bending knees to absorb force and maintain balance when landing, and swinging arms forcefully for distance.

2nd Grade

-Is able to jump over objects of varying height in succession, and is able to maintain balance by utilizing the critical components of landing.

3rd Grade

-Jumps off equipment using bouyant/yielding landings, and understands that keeping head and shoulders up helps to maintain balance when landing.

4th Grade-Outcome:

-Understands and applies the important elements of jumping and landing, while jumping in rythym or in succession.

Catching and Throwing Benchmarks: Catching and throwing are skills that are not addressed until 2nd grade.  If you would like to see when the students in my class are introduced to each skill please refer to my scope and sequence page.

2nd Grade

-Understands the difference between dominant and non-dominant hand, can throw at a large target, and catch a ball when rolled to them, while utilizing the basic elements of catching and throwing disscussed in class.

3rd Grade

-Can consistently identify at least two of the critical components of the overhand throw, such as, side to the target, and stepping with opposition.

4th Grade

-Is able to throw and catch to self at different levels, and at different places around their body, and understands the movements neccessary to do so correctly.

5th Grade

-Throws and catches with a partner at varying distances, and is able to throw over and through different types of apparatus.  The student will also be able to assess their partner by identifying their ability to apply the important elements of catching and throwing that have been addressed in class.

6th Grade-Outcome

-Students will be able to throw to a moving target, as well as be able to catch while moving.  They will also be able to identify the critical components of both the catch and throw.

Kicking and Punting Benchmarks:

2nd Grade

-Kicks a ball from a stationary position using 3 different parts of the foot, to a large target.

3rd Grade

-Can consistently identify and utilize at least two of the critical components of the kick.

4th Grade

-Detects, analyzes, and corrects errors, that occur when kicking.

5th Grade

-Is able to kick a ball to a partner with relative accuracy, and understands that contact with different areas of the ball effects the direction of the balls movement.

6th Grade Outcome:

-Can accurately recognize the critical elements of a kick made by a fellow student and provides feedback to that student.

Punting:

4th Grade

-Students are able to drop, bounce, and punt a ball, and also punt a stationary ball using a nonstop approach.

5th Grade Outcome

-Varies force when punting to zones, and understands the critical components unique to the punt.

Volleying Benchmarks:

2nd Grade

-Students can strike an object, such as, a balloon or beach ball into the air using different parts of their body.

3rd Grade

-Understands the concepts of using a flat surface, and extending to a target when striking a ball with different body parts.

4th Grade

-Strikes a ball to a target using an underhand pattern, and strikes a ball upwards with the forearms, consistently using 3 critical components of volleying.

5th Grade

-Can identify and transfer from one means of striking to another when volleying to a partner.

6th Grade Outcome:

-Strikes a ball continuously using different parts of their body for a given amount of time or number of strikes, while using the important elements required to volley successfully.

Hand Dribbling Benchmarks:

2nd Grade

-Students can dribble a ball continuously, and understands the importance of using finger pads when dribbling.

3rd Grade

-Can identify 3 critical components of dribbling, and demonstrate them consistently.

4th Grade

-Students are able to move in general space and dribble while changing directions, and understand that hand placement on the ball effects ball movement when dribbling around obstacles.

5th Grade

-Identifies proper movement patterns and is consistent in assessing those patterns when critiquing a partner.

6th Grade Outcome:

-Students can dribble vs. an opponent, and also can explain and demonstrate, 5 critical components of dribbling.

Foot Dribbling Benchmarks:
