Central Washington University offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical and dental
insurance, retirement and optional savings plans, life and disability insurance, along with vacation and
sick leave plans depending on employment classification.
INSURANCEEligibilityGenerally, positions that last more than six consecutive months and are at least 50% of full-time are eligible for benefits. Coverage begins the first day of the month following the date of hire. If the date of hire is the first working day of the month, coverage begins immediately. Spouse or same-sex domestic partner, and dependent children are eligible for coverage.COSTThe majority of insurance premiums are covered by CWU. Employee premiums vary with plan choice and dependent coverage.ENROLLMENT TIMEFRAMESEmployees must complete health plan and retirement enrollment forms within the first 31 days of eligibility and life insurance enrollment forms within the first 60 days of eligibility.MEDICAL INSURANCEChoose from managed care plans under Group Health Classic, Group Health Value, or Aetna, or the preferred provider plan under Uniform Medical.DENTAL INSURANCEChoose from managed care plans under DeltaCare or Willamette or the preferred provider plan under Uniform Dental.LIFE INSURANCECWU provides a $25,000 term life insurance policy. Optional enrollment in additional life insurance is available.LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD) INSURANCECWU provides basic coverage after 90 days of disability for all benefits eligible employees. Employees may supplement this coverage with an additional plan replacing up to 60% of monthly salary. This additional coverage is provided for faculty with tenure-track or one-year appointments at no cost.FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT (FSA)Tax-free savings plans are available through payroll deduction to cover eligible out-of-pocket medical expenses.DEPENDENT CARE ASSISTANCE PLAN (DCAP)Pre-tax accounts for qualified dependent care are available through payroll deduction.RETIREMENT PLANSFACULTY & ADMINISTRATIVE/EXEMPTFaculty and administrative/exempt staff participate in the Central Washington University Retirement Plan (CWURP). The CWURP is a defined contribution plan with required contribution rates based on age, immediate vesting, and 100% matching from the university. Employees choose among investment options with Fidelity, TIAA-CREF, and Vanguard.CLASSIFIED STAFFClassified staff members participate in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and must choose between plans 2 and 3 within the first 90 days of employment. Campus Police participate in the Law Enforcement Officers and Firefighters Retirement System (LEOFF). PERS and LEOFF are defined benefit pension plans through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. Those with prior membership in PERS, the URP, or the Washington State Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) may elect to continue participation in the prior plan under certain conditions.SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT SAVINGSSupplemental Retirement Plan (SRA)Pre-tax savings through payroll deduction is available to all employees with investment options through Fidelity, TIAA-CREF, and Vanguard. Deferred Compensation Plan (DCP)Pre-tax savings through payroll deduction is available with investment options through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. HOLIDAYS & LEAVETen holidays are observed and classified and administrative/exempt staff are provided with a personal paid holiday, twelve days of sick leave, and vacation leave based on classification and length of service.
