As the Diversity Center Program Coordinator, I work closely with Student Programmers and volunteers to think of and create concrete ways to empower marginalized perspectives, foster intellectual and cultural vibrancy, and affect change in our campus community. The following is an excerpt from bell hooks' Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom, that captures well the spirit of what we do at the CWU Diversity Education Center: "The academy is not paradise. But learning is a place where paradise can be created. The classroom, with all its limitations, remains a location of possibility. In that field of possibility we have the opportunity to labor for freedom, to demand of ourselves and our comrades, an openness of mind and heart that allows us to face reality even as we collectively imagine ways to move beyond boundaries, to transgress. This is education as the practice of freedom." I am always available to plot another great event so come see me in SUB 253, Monday to Friday, 9-5.

Hafa Adai! This is my forth year on the job and I'm pleased to be a part of this wonderful, amazing and growing department. I am still affiliated with three other on-campus departments, but you can find me in the Center of Excellence in Leadership's office, SURC 261. Please stop in and let me know how thing are goingwith you, or if I can be of any assistance.
I am married to my wonderful husband, Mark, who is an instructor in the HHPR Department. We are from the small island of Guam in the huge Pacific Ocean, and we have 3 children - Miah 9, Taylor, 3, and Chase, 17 months.

First off, let me just say hello! I am honored to be one of the Student Programmers for the Diversity Education Center. I am majoring in Sociology with a minor in Ethnic Studies. For this school term my goal is to shed light on issues surrounding the cultural minorities with our society, as well as highlight the problems members of the LGBTQ community face on a daily basis. Feel free to stop into the Diversity Center anytime. I look forward to meeting the many faces that make up Central Washington University.

I am a sophomore at Central Washington University. I've been a member of the Diversity Center Team since Spring of 2006 and plan to double major in Law and Justice and Sociology. My club involvement includes being Public Relations and Residents Hall Coordinator for the BlackStudent union and Secretary for Law And Justice Club. I am here on campus. One of my major goals is to become a positive role model for students in my community and for all students at Central Washington University.
