Star Parker will be coming to CWU on Thursday March 11, 2004 at 7 pm in the Cesar Chavez Theater, SUB. Her presentation on "Breaking the Cycle of Poverty" will be free and is sponsored by the Diversity Center and College Republicans. She is the founder and president of CURE, Coalition on Urban Renewal and Education, a nonprofit research group. She is also a columnist and author that encourages personal responsibility.
Parker was once a single mother on welfare living in Los Angeles, California. However, after accepting Christ into her life, she changed her life around. She worked her way through college to receive a degree in marketing.
She has released two books, "Pimps, Whores and Welfare Brats" and most recently "Uncle Sam's Plantation". She is also a regular commentator on CNN, MSNBC and FOX News. She has given testimonial before the US Congress and her story has been told on ABC's 20/20 and Rush Limbaugh. She has also debated with Jesse Jackson on BET and discussed issues on Larry King and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
